Edrington is headquartered in Scotland and employs over 3,500 people in its wholly owned and joint venture companies, with over 70% employed overseas. We own our route to market in 15 countries and distribute our brands to more than 100 countries around the world through joint ventures and third-party agreements.

Edrington’s vision is that we will give more by building the world’s leading portfolio of exceptional super premium spirits.

A new exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Scientist, working for The Macallan.  This role will mine, clean and analyse our consumer data, then identify patterns and uncover opportunities within it —all with the ultimate goal of realising the data’s full potential. This data has until recently been stored in a fragmented way across regional databases and will now be consolidated into a central repository, managed via HubSpot.

Some of the key responsibilities for this role includes:

  • Lead the consumer data science approach within The Macallan brand team
  • Create clear reports and dashboards that facilitate key business decision making, covering:
    • optimal approaches (communications, channels, experiences, propositions, contact frequency etc) to maximise consumer-focused goals of engagement, purchase, loyalty and advocacy
    • opportunities and challenges in our consumer engagement
    • data-led consumer insights to enrich existing personas and segments
    • performance of consumer engagement and marketing effectiveness
  • Become a trusted data science subject matter expert to the business and senior stakeholders
  • Data Analysis, Dimensional Modelling and Data Model design
  • Develop processes and work with technology teams and external providers to implement systems to ensure optimal data flow, integrity, analysis and output
  • Use machine learning tools and statistical techniques to identify and address issues and opportunities
  • Develop predictive models, including next best action, for consumers and the business
  • Identify and assess the effectiveness of data sources and data-gathering techniques and improve data collection methods

To be considered for this role, you will have technical, mathematical and statistical expertise, but also an understanding of consumer behaviour, marketing and consumer engagement approaches combined with a natural curiosity and creative mind. You will be comfortable within a pragmatic, agile and rapidly evolving function – the ability to adapt to changing priorities and team requirements flexibly is an important personal attribute. Experience in Alteryx, Power BI, DAX, SSIS, RDBMS, ETL, R, Solver, Python, Excel (advanced) and Mathematical modelling (HNC+, or a numerate degree such as physics) is essential.
