An opportunity has arisen to join the Macallan business unit as the Finance Director following a recent restructure within our Group Finance team. This role has the primary aim of providing leadership in finance and strategic stock planning for The Macallan business unit, and to be a core part of the management team working to “Perfect The Macallan”. The role holder will be accountable for the financial reporting of the business unit pivotal in creating the long term business unit strategy. They will lead a team of professionals to deliver best in class financial analysis and decision support as well as controlling the long term planning of The Macallan whisky stocks, guiding the business on short-medium term stock usage and appropriate market allocations to deliver brand strategy.


Reporting to the Managing Director of The Macallan business unit, key responsibilities for this role include:


  • Act as a key member of the Macallan Leadership Team playing a central role is setting the strategy, managing performance and overall leadership of the business unit as well as contributing to discussions on all aspects of the business, as well as providing financial leadership within the team

  • Full responsibility for the Macallan stock management from maturing whisky stocks through to market allocations of finished product, leading the strategic stock planning team to ensure the long term Macallan maturing stocks enable the overall brand strategy to become a reality

  • Work with the Brand and Whisky Mastery teams to identify opportunities to maximise the value of our stockholding, and the Group Operations team on stock acquisitions, filling levels and other matters where execution is outside the Macallan business unit team

  • Lead the process for effective allocation of finished products to markets to ensure delivery of the brand strategy and optimisation of available cased goods stock, working with the Global Supply Planning and Regional supply chain teams to ensure that the right stock is in the right market at the right time

  • Make use of financial outputs from the Regional and Group Finance teams to deliver timely, accurate and compelling analytical reporting on brand performance which supports effective decision making by the Macallan business unit team

  • Provide high quality commercial support to maximise performance by sharing and stimulating debate on opportunities to improve profits or other aspects of the brand, providing analytical and modelling support to teams within the business unit

  • Deliver effective reporting and analysis of A&P investment so that there is full visibility of spend levels by market and purpose, ensuring procedures to evaluate investments in advance and afterwards are robust and are consistently applied

  • Actively manage the cost base of the business unit, providing both support and challenge to budget-holders across the team to ensure that expenditure is effectively executed and monitored.

  • Work closely with Group and Regional Finance teams to ensure all financial aspects of the Macallan brand are fully aligned and running smoothly

  • Deliver effective risk management and control across all business unit activity

  • Provide effective coaching and performance management of the team of technical professionals

To succeed in this role you will be a commercial savvy, qualified, finance leader with a “partnering” outlook. You will be expected to be able to demonstrate experience within industry and have experience of maturing whisky stock management. Extensive international travel is required.
