Materials Performance Manager (£45,000 - £55,000 per annum + excellent benefits) - Glasgow - Great Western Road

Following the announcement of a retirement within the team we have an exciting opportunity for a Materials Performance Manager to join the team. The role is intended to promote excellent performance of all materials used in our bottling facility, both in terms of manufacturing efficiency and in the performance of the packaging throughout the supply chain.


Working closely with our many suppliers, as well as with colleagues in production, engineering, packaging development and purchasing, you will seek to improve the quality of materials we use. 


Reporting to the Director of Brands Packaging, key responsibilities for this role will include:


  • Reduce Material Related downtime and lost output, and report as a key performance indicator.

  • Issue full weekly reports detailing all current issues, corrective actions, owners and timescales.

  • Reduce the value of material issues with unrecovered cost, and report as KPI.

  • Validate reported causes of downtime, so that actions taken are appropriate and focussed.

  • Optimise palletisation specifications for bottles.

  • Ensure material design and performance is appropriate for all lines, but specifically for line 2.

  • Assist production by responding swiftly to issues as they arise, and seek to identify both the cause of and the solution to the problem

  • For suppliers with on-going and significant manufacturing issues, generate a more aggressive action plan, with root cause analysis, systematic plans and formal performance review sessions.

  • Improve material traceability through an enhanced pallet identification system.

  • Target chronic issues such as carton glueing deficiencies, appearance defects on glass bottles etc., and create an action plan to resolve these in a permanent way.

  • Create, manage and deliver a full supplier auditing regime, following up on actions, and reporting on the outcomes.

  • Manage the Supplier Performance System, gathering data as appropriate, and in particular control all data relating to material quality.

  • Create monthly and quarterly materials performance reports, and arrange quarterly performance review sessions with all key suppliers. Chair these meetings, presenting data in a meaningful way, and publish agreed actions in a timely manner after the meeting.


    To be successful in this role candidates will need to have a full and fundamental understanding of the interfaces between materials, people and machinery. You must understand the manufacturing processes involved in making all of the key components used in the factory and a sound knowledge of the key elements of process capability within our suppliers’ manufacturing facilities. You must understand the likely effects of specific defects, and be able to differentiate between those which need urgent and specific action, and those which can be monitored and reported.


    You will be able to demonstrate the leadership standards (inspire, change, collaborate, engage and deliver) within your role on a day to day basis.
